A rare instance where people wanted to be baited is basically the case at hand. Many mourn over the loss that Griffin's appearance is not that of a typical Sexyman interpretations such as Bill Cipher or Tony the Talking Clock. Some fanartists purposely recreate Griffin to be more sexy or their ideals of an attractive Griffin. His backstories (both romantic and personal) are always really angsty. What little fanfiction there is of Hotel Transylvania, and especially of Griffin, delves into his love life and his failures in the dating game. (Note: Although there are Jewish people with frizzy red hair and big noses, the movie's rendition is done in an almost mocking way of those features.) The outrage was seen everywhere causing both confusion and amusement for onlookers who hadn't known that so many people considered Griffin to be sexy. Many took to social media that their hopes and dreams for Griffin were now ruined due to looking a lot like an anti-semitic caricature. Asides from completely retconning the message and character development of the previous films, the main issue fans had was that Griffin, when hit by the human/monster ray, looked nothing to what fans had fantasized him as. The trailer reveals the film's plot consists of main character and human Johnny turning into a monster to feel more accepted as a family by Dracula. It wasn't until the release of the fourth movie's trailer that Griffin suddenly became a Keter level Sexyman. Research shows that there are instances of people actively drooling over Griffin since the release of the first film but gained little to modest attention. Many thought him to be attractive but kept it to themselves as the HT fandom has never been massive (besides the hoards of young children who enjoy the franchise) or playing off their attraction as a joke. Serves as a fanon trait as many enjoy dressing Griffin up in sweater vests and fancy Hawaiian shirts. The glasses Griffin wears are nicknamed as "hot guy glasses." When he does choose to wear clothing and/or more accessories, they're notably dapper. The reason behind his popularity makes him an ensemble darkhorse as no one was expecting a Hotel Transylvania character to be so massively crushed on. As previously stated, Griffin is a secondary character and mainly provides to the plot as comedic relief and support to Dracula. Also applies to whether he has the same backstory as the original Invisible Man, as HT's version is vastly different from his original counterpart. Whether Griffin was born invisible or turned invisible is up for debate as the Hotel Transylvania movies do nothing to elaborate. He is literally a pair of floating glasses. Also applies to the Latin American Spanish dub, as many fans from those countries agree his dubbed voice is equally attractive. Many have claimed his voice to be the reason behind their attraction. Griffin is voiced by David Spade who voice acted for Kuzco from the Emperor's New Groove. (May not be the most reputable source as many sections are empty or unfinished.) More information can be found on the character's Hotel Transylvania wiki.

Even with the little screen time he has, Griffin has proven to be very supportive of his friends and is shown to take initiative when needed. He has a tendency to prank people and prefers not to be the one being pranked. In said Dracula's friend group, Griffin is the witty and sarcastic one. The movies so far have revealed nothing besides the fact that Griffin was hanging out with Dracula and their friends in 1897, coincidentally the same year the Invisible Man novel was released. In the original book, Griffin was a human mad scientist who made himself invisible who is driven to even more madness when the effects are irreversible. Not much is known about Hotel Transylvania's version of the Invisible Man's backstory or past.
